2006


VBS 1

August – United States Marine Corps (USMC) agree VBS enterprise license
We announced that the United States Marine Corps (USMC) purchased an enterprise license of Virtual Battlespace (VBS). The license provides an unlimited number of VBS1 and VBS2 licenses to the Marines for use in tactical training, mission rehearsal and experimentation. The decision by the USMC to purchase an enterprise license of VBS marks a milestone for the product and validation that the Real Virtuality engine remains one of the most flexible, extendable and cost-effective military simulation tools available today.


Game Convention 2006

August – Armed Assault on Game Convention 2006
IDEA Games represented us at Game Convention 2006 in Leipzig and demonstrated ArmA to numerous members of the press as well as publishers and members of the German Flashpoint community.


Community Wiki

July – Community Wiki Unleashed
As part of our continuing efforts in ensuring that information about our company and projects is available to everyone we launched our community wiki. The wiki is intended to serve as the first stop for anyone seeking knowledge or information, it also contains much useful information and guidance for people seeking to expand their knowledge of the modding/editing side of our projects.


Operation Flashpoint

June – 5 Year Anniversary of Operation Flashpoint's release
Five years ago a small Czech game developer Bohemia Interactive Studio released a military action PC title Operation Flashpoint, published by Codemasters. None of us could have predicted just where the story would lead. Five years later we find ourselves looking back at the incredible journey that the game and company have since embarked on. A press release containing new ArmA screenshots as well as a technology video was released as part of the anniversary celebrations.

May – Armed Assault at E3 2006
IDEA Games represented us at E3 and Armed Assault was demonstrated to a number of members of the press, meetings also took place with potential publishers..


VBS 1

April – Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces choose VBS1
A VBS1 enterprise license was negotiated with the Australian Defence Force (ADF), which includes provision of VBS1 and an update to VBS2 for both the ADF and the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). A press release was made available at VirtualBattlespace.com



2005

IDEA Games

December – Co-operation with IDEA Games announced
ALTAR games, Black Element Software and Bohemia Interactive Studio announce formation of IDEA Games (Independent DEvelopers Association). IDEA Games offers its members and associates full service in the area of deal negotiations, PR and marketing activities, legal support and company presentations.


VBS 1

November – VBS2 Announced and demonstrated at I/ITSEC
Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) was demonstrated at I/ITSEC, which was held at the Florida Convention Center in Orlando.VBS2 provides a low-cost military-off-the-shelf interactive virtual environment suitable for a wide range of training and analytical purposes. Guided by comprehensive feedback from various organizations including the USMC and the Australian Defence Force.

October – Operation Flashpoint: Elite released on Xbox™
We were delighted to announced in early October that Operation Flashpoint: Elite went gold and this was followed by the game's release in the EU in late October.

June – 4 Year Anniversary of Operation Flashpoint's release
Four years after the day that Operation Flashpoint was originally released, we decided it was time to give everyone an update as to our overall views and plans. To this end an open letter to the Flashpoint community was released.


ArmA: Armed Assault

May – E3 2005 attended: Three projects announced
Bohemia Interactive had their own room at E3 2005 and used the opportunity to show work on three announced projects. Operation Flashpoint for Xbox, The Next Generation PC project, as well as the newly announced ArmA: Armed Assault also for PC.



2004

Mission Editing Competition 2004

June – Mission Editing Competition Launched
Monday 14th June saw the official launch of the Operation Flashpoint: Mission Editing competition with a number of prizes on offer including a copy of VBS1 with all modules. This competition was designed to test the creative abilities of a highly skilled but diminishing section of the community. Addon/mod creators may well be the body of the Flashpoint community but mission creators are the very necessary blood.

May – VBS1 distribution extended worldwide
A significant milestone for Bohemia Interactive was the announcement that VBS1™ was being made available worldwide with the intention of strengthening its position as a unique, low cost, simulation tool for the training of small squads in various combat and non combat scenarios. A press release was made available containing this information.


Don't you wag that finger at me buddy!

May – Community/Public Relations Manager hired
As a means to improve and expand on the relationship Bohemia Interactive has with the Operation Flashpoint community, a permanent position for a Community/PR Manager was created at the head offices in Prague. Paul Statham who had served in a voluntary capacity as head moderator on the forums for a number of years was employed in this position.


GOTY

April – Patch 1.96 for Operation Flashpoint: Resistance & GOTY version
Following a successful release candidate version a month before the final version of 1.96 was made available for download, this patch was primarily a stability and performance patch.


VBS 1

March – VBS1 for the US National Guard
Virtual Battlefield System 1 (VBS1™) was announced as being deployed by the US National Guard. VBS1™ will augment the training of the Guard’s Enhanced Separate Brigades (ESBs) in garrison and while deployed overseas giving the National Guard a proven successful, fully interactive, three-dimensional software training application that uniquely addresses the Guard’s escalating force protection threat.

March – BI Studio's fun page unleashed
We looked deep into our archives and found some funny things from the history of Bohemia Interactive Studio and Operation Flashpoint. You can find everything on our new pages. Clues and hints were released directly onto our forums.

February – Operation Flashpoint for XBOX announced
A dedicated edition of Operation Flashpoint was announced as coming to the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft. The project was eventually titled Operation Flashpoint: Elite



2002

November – Operation Flashpoint GOTY Edition
Operation Flashpoint: Game of the Year Edition was released. It brought together the complete series including the original game "Cold War Crisis" and the expansions "Resistance" and Gold Upgrade/"Red Hammer". The Game Of The Year Edition comes fully loaded with every official upgrade, add-on and expansion, including all vehicles, weapons and extra campaigns released to date.


Oxygen

September – Breathe initiative for MOD makers
Breathe Initiative for MOD makers launched after a couple of months of testing. Oxygen Light, proprietary 3D modelling package for Operation Flashpoint engine, was released as part of the tool suite necessary for fans of the game to create new vehicles and objects for Operation Flashpoint.


Resistance

June – Operation Flashpoint Resistance released
The official expansion pack for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Resistance, was released. It is set years before Operation Flashpoint's Cold War reached crisis point. It introduced a new single-player campaign on a new island with a new central character, a compelling story and additional gameplay elements. It also included enhanced graphics, brought new gameplay elements and dramatically improved the online multiplayer experience.

March – GDC Award
Bohemia Interactive Studio received the Rookie Studio of the Year Award at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose. The Game Developers Choice Awards started in 2000 with the idea that there is no greater honor than to be recognized by one’s peers. All professional game developers are eligible to nominate, vote and pay tribute to the developers who transcended the state of the art in 2002, making these true industry accolades.


1,000,000 Copies Sold

January – over 1.000,000 copies of Operation Flashpoint sold worldwide
Over 1 million copies of Operation Flashpoint were sold worldwide. The game was released in various editions worldwide – original 5 language Cold War Crisis Edition, Gold Edition and special versions in the Korean, Russian, Czech and Polish languages. The game Operation Flashpoint was highly acclaimed by the specialist press and it received various game of the year awards, including the Game of the Year Award from Computer Gaming World and the Action Game of The Year from Gamespy.com.



2001

VBS 1

December – Real-time Visual Training Program VBS1
The United States Marine Corps started to use a special combat training application based upon Operation Flashpoint. This special version of the Operation Flashpoint Technology is called VBS1 (Virtual Battlefield System) . Other military organizations began to look at VBS1 for training purposes. This military training program was developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio and Coalescent Technologies Corporation, an independent engineering firm contracted by the Department of Defence and the United States Marine Corps.


OFP: Gold Edition

November – Operation Flashpoint Gold Edition
The latest version of Operation Flashpoint with additional bonus material was released as Operation Flashpoint Gold Edition. It contained all the additional vehicles, weapons and missions made available since the game's European launch, along with enhanced multiplayer functionality and many additional code updates and also the 20-mission Soviet "Red Hammer" campaign developed by Codemasters. The Gold Edition also contained a 64-page Operation Flashpoint Prima Strategy Guide, focussing on the original game Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis.


ECTS Award

September – ECTS Award
Bohemia Interactive Studio received the PC Gamer Best PC Game Developer Award at ECTS in London.

September – Operation Flashpoint released in US
Operation Flashpoint, re-mastered to version 1.20 with improved multi-player and new vehicles, debuted in North America. It achieved a number one chart position in the USA shortly after its release.


Operation Flashpoint

June – Operation Flashpoint released
Operation Flashpoint was released in many countries around the world. It immediately became the No. 1 selling game in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Czech Republic and other countries. The development team continued to support the game with regularly released content upgrades and patches over the internet.


Demo

March – Operation Flashpoint demo
The Operation Flashpoint Single Player Demo was released and it catched the attention of more than one million gamers within one week after the release. Fans of the game started to create new missions for the demo and the game community grew quickly and eagerly awaited the release of the full version.



2000

Operation Flashpoint

September – Publishing contract with Codemasters
Codemasters had strengthened its PC line up by securing Operation Flashpoint. Codemasters scheduled Operation Flashpoint for a major launch in Quarter 1, 2001. Mike Hayes, Codemasters' Marketing Director commented : "Bohemia Interactive Studio has developed a very special title, which leaps so far ahead of the projected evolution of the genre that it practically starts a whole fresh game category. Operation Flashpoint has far more mass appeal and realism than anything the market's seen before." See Codemasters' press release for more information.



1999

Bohemia Interactive Studio founded
Privately owned company Bohemia Interactive Studio was founded with the goal to develop state of the art 3D computer games. The first project went under the working title Flashpoint 1985: Status Quo and it was based on the proprietary Real Virtuality Engine. Bohemia Interactive Studio started to look for a publisher for their first game and released the first trailer and screenshots of the game. The company resides in Prague, Czech Republic.
