The proprietary Flashpoint Engine is designed to handle large and complex sceneries using the Direct3D API.

Up Artificial Intelligence


The Flashpoint Engine includes proprietary AI algorithms to simulate the behaviour of soldiers and non-combatants. See our AI article at www.flashpoint1985.com for more information. The development of AI algorithms continues and Bohemia Interactive Studio's goal is to expand the AI to include knowledge databases and other areas to create even more complex and believable behaviour of AI in its upcoming games.

Up Physical Simulation


The Flashpoint Engine simulates various objects and vehicles, including fully explorable structures, cars, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. It also simulates various temporal and meteorogical effect, like tides and stellar constellations. The scope and quality of the simulation is being improved continuously throughout the development of Bohemia Interactive's projects.

Oxygen was developed to give artists maximum freedom and full control over the models for Flashpoint Engine. Oxygen is linked closely to the engine and all changes are displayed real-time directly in the engine. It also supports various engine specific properties of objects. Oxygen Light is currently available as free download (subject to end user license agreement) as part of our Operation Flashpoint: Breathe Initiative.

This proprietary tool is used to create large maps with natural terrain and cultural features, roads and villages.


Up Motion Capture

Motion Capture


Bohemia Interactive uses special optical technology for motion capturing and analysis. This system enables us to create life-like animations of human characters, animals and their interactions in real-time game environments.



Up Face capturing
Bohemia Interactive uses optical technology to capture mimics of real actor for further analysis and conversion. Our current research and development focus on life-like facial animation of virtual characters, including the display of emotional behaviours and natural speech.

An optoelectronic glove allows Bohemia Interactive to capture movement of fingers. The combination of optical motion capture, face capture and glove gives ability to animate entire human body in the real-time 3D environmnent.

3D scanning

3D scanning

3D scaners are designated to digitize 3D surfaces and objects. It allows very detailed and precise reconstruction of real objects in virtual environments and anaylisis of optical characteristics of surfaces. Our current reasearch in this field focuses mainly on the use of such digitized data with new features of the latest generation of videocards to improve the quality of computer rendering.
